When are they?
Group sessions run three times per year, for three months at a time, with one month off after each session. It works very similarly to a college course schedule. Every group is BRAND NEW each session, so don't worry about being new - everyone is!
Registration for groups is open during the following times:
- Fall Growth Groups: mid-September to mid-October
- Winter/Spring Groups: mid-January to mid-February
- Summer Groups: mid-May to mid-June
Groups begin the week registration ends. Groups can last anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks.
What kind of groups are there?
The great thing about groups is that they are purely member-driven. Whatever Group you want to do you can! We will take all of the group topics and put them into one of three categories for our catalog: Activity, Study and Mission groups.
Activity - A recreational type of group. Examples: Flag Football, Yard games, Running, etc.
Study - Groups based on a book - or book of the Bible. Examples: Dave Ramsey's "Total Money Makeover," marriage study using "Love & Respect," 1 Corinthians, etc.
Go - Local, National and World-based missions trips/groups. Examples: Volunteering at Lawrence shelters, mission trip to Haiti, Thailand, etc.
Who can sign up to be in an existing group?
Anyone.
What is a Group Leader? (How can I start my own group?)
A Group Leader is simply the point person for the Group, they prepare in advance and help facilitate the Group discussion/activity.
Requirements for being a Group Leader:
1. Be a Member of EastLake. (Membership classes happen after each Group season.)
2. Have participated in at least one Group in a previous session.
What is a Group "Host"?
A Group Host is anyone with available space and a willingness to allow a Group to meet at their home if the leader can't provide it!
What about childcare?
Unless otherwise noted, childcare is not provided at Growth Groups.
